# Pragmatic Wins **FN-008 · Issue 001 · 2026-09-15 · By JMPKit** > Prefer the smallest understandable convention that works broadly and can evolve safely. ## The situation Infrastructure accumulates abstractions easily. A system may become more complete on paper while becoming harder for an agent to discover, explain, debug, and combine. Every additional hierarchy or bespoke vocabulary consumes attention and creates another place where remembered instructions can drift from reality. The history of the web rewards many imperfect but interoperable conventions. Their strength is not theoretical maximalism. It is reach, inspectability, incremental adoption, and continued usefulness across different tools. ## JMPKit's response JMPKit should expose familiar HTTP, URLs, headers, status codes, byte bodies, JSON, WebSockets, and SSE wherever those forms are sufficient. New primitives should exist only where an agent cannot reliably compose the outcome from the current ones or where a shared convention removes recurring operational pain. “Flat” is an internal design principle: capabilities should feel equally near, use familiar conventions, and avoid deep product hierarchies. Publicly, this should feel like one simple, lightweight layer. Pragmatism also means change must be survivable. Version exact contracts, publish current discovery, preserve supported old behavior during announced transitions, and let agents inspect rather than guess. ## Guidance for an agent - Use the smallest capability set that completes the result. - Prefer ordinary web mechanisms when they express the requirement cleanly. - Do not invent a new service, entity, or abstraction without a concrete need. - Read current contracts and version signals before relying on remembered behavior. - Design for revision: a JMPKit thing is made, not finished. ## Related reading - [Architecture of the World Wide Web, Volume One](https://www.w3.org/TR/webarch/) - [HTTP Semantics, RFC 9110](https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc9110.html) - [Composition Instead of Infrastructure Assembly](composition-instead-of-infrastructure-assembly.md)
